The day of small nations has long passed away. The day of Empires has come. Learn to think Imperially.

Spot on, Joseph! Of course, not quite in the way you imagined it. But surely this is the lesson of the twentieth century. You would think that an old imperialist country like Britain would understand the value of belonging to the European Empire (otherwise known as the European Union). It seems mad that it is the Conservatives who want to leave the empire and go back to being a small nation.

Far be it from me to point out that the real problem is that London is not capital of the European empire!
