There is nothing which has yet been contrived by man by which so much happiness is produced as by a good tavern or inn.
Dr Samuel Johnson 1709-1784
There is always ‘The Inn Of The Sixth Happiness‘, but somehow I don’t think that is quite what Dr Johnson had in mind.
The illustration is of ‘Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese’, at 145 Fleet Street in the City of London. It was one of several rebuilt after the Great Fire of 1666 and is known to have been a favourite haunt of Dr Johnson – and Boswell of course. Courtesy Wikimedia.
