Lara’s Theme from Pasternak’s ‘Doctor Zhivago’

My mother remained unsmitten by Omar Sharif – ‘he only has two expressions, brimming and brimming over’, she said tartly. I do now see that he was a bit wooden in this film, but at the time we all swooned over this matinée idol, perhaps the last of the matinée idols?

I certainly saw myself as Julie Christie, all I needed were the sables…
